Why
are the slots angled on All American Wood Registers?
Angled slots do a better job of projecting air into the living
space of the room, which provides optimum effectiveness of warm and cool
air circulation. Straight slots tend to project the air straight out at
the floor or ceiling, where its effectiveness is dissipated.
Do I really need an air flow regulator?
Yes. Current National Building Code now requires that all
supply registers must be able to be regulated.
Why do you offer two types of air flow regulator controls?
The
elevated control is offered for use in toe kick model registers and ceiling
or wall registers, where it is easier to use. The recessed air flow control
is made available for use in flooring applications. Recessed controls
-
aid the installer in the sanding operation
-
protect the end user from injury by accidentally stepping on the
control
-
protect the control from damage
Are wood registers as efficient as metal registers?
No. By their nature, wood registers cannot move as much air.
However, in the majority of cases, this loss is negligible and does not
affect the efficiency of the heating and cooling system. We believe the
gain in attractive appearance of these very visible room accessories far
offsets any minimal efficiency loss.
How do I finish an unfinished register?
If the register is equipped with an air flow regulator, remove
it.
Sand all surfaces lightly with 60 grit sandpaper. Do not use steel wool,
as it tends to shed fibers that stick in the grain and may foul a smooth
finish.
Stain all surfaces of the register: top, ends, back and slots, to the
desired color. Use an oil-based stain and follow the manufacturers
directions.
-
Allow to dry thoroughly.
-
Apply 2 coats of oil-based sanding sealer to all surfaces of the
register.
-
Allow to dry thoroughly.
-
Sand the sealer with 220 grit sandpaper.
-
Apply 2-3 coats of high-quality, oil-based finish coat to all surfaces
of the register.
-
When dry, replace damper (if applicable).
Whats
the difference between your vertical and horizontal slot registers?
Our horizontal slot registers are mono-directional and are
milled from a single piece of solid wood for best durability and structural
strength. Our vertical models provide bi-directional airflow. These require
multi-piece construction, but joins are created with extraordinary attention
to detail for a tight, long-lasting fit.
